Skytree Wins Concept Award at GreenTech Amsterdam 2023

Published on
June 19, 2023

In the world of technology and innovation, GreenTech is the place to be. It's where groundbreaking ideas and revolutionary concepts take center stage. This year, at the summer edition held in Amsterdam, Skytree emerged as a standout winner at the GreenTech Concept & Innovation Awards, securing the prestigious GreenTech Concept Award for their first DAC solution, nicknamed Model-5.

At Skytree, we’re a company specializing in Decentralized Direct Air Capture (DDAC) units, with the first rollout aimed at controlled environment agriculture, focusing on vertical farms and subsequently, on greenhouses. What's unique about the Model-5 is that it offers a scalable alternative to the current fossil fuel-based CO2 supply chain. With Skytree's DDAC units, businesses can now extract clean CO2 directly from the air onsite, and potentially use it immediately or store it for later usage. This innovation not only meets the growing demand for CO2 but also helps reduce CO2 levels in our atmosphere, contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.

The jury, highly impressed with Model-5, stated, "This startup's new technology has the potential to address several societal and environmental issues, particularly in horticulture. It could revolutionize how we limit the use of fossil fuel-based CO2."

Jolanda Heistek, the jury chairman, explained the criteria that led to Skytree's victory: "We selected the winners of the Concept & Innovation Awards based on the originality of their entries, their commitment to sustainability, and their potential impact on social and environmental issues. Skytree presented their innovation in a highly professional manner, instilling confidence in their development journey and business plans."

This recognition underscores Skytree's dedication to innovation and sustainability in greenhouse technology. The Model-5, which was at concept stage, is already being built out with greater capacity and impact. It bears a new name, Skytree Cumulus, and is available for order for both the EU and North America regions.

The award came at an event that witnessed a large turnout of 11,500 attendees demonstrating the growing interest in greenhouse technology. GreenTech Amsterdam took place from June 13th to 15th at RAI Amsterdam and drew professionals from 128 countries, with Germany, China, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, and the Netherlands being the top five represented nations. 100+ sessions with key speakers, including our CEO Rob van Straten on the start-up pitch floor, were fully attended, enthusiastically.
